A Special Thanksgiving Request

Beloveds,


Please join Me in offering Gratitude to the Andrew Goodman Foundation for a Beautiful Evening Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Freedom Summer Workers, the Lives of Goodman Cheney and Schwerner (who this week received the Presidential Medal of Honor) and the many Heroes of the Civil Rights Movement past and present including Mayor David Dinkins, Clarence B. Jones, ESQ (Martin Luther King Jr.'s friend and attorney who smuggled out of jail the famous "Birmingham Letter to Clergy"), and  America's Beloved Activist, Harry Belafonte who presented the Media Award to Oscar Winner, Steve McQueen (12 Years A Slave).


There was an evening welcome by David Goodman, brother of Andrew Goodman.  Master of Ceremonies and panel discussion moderator for the evening was John Quinones( ABC News Anchor and Host of "What Would Your Do?" 


Hidden Heroes and Visionary of Freedom Summer Awards were presented by Jamilah Lemieux (Ebony Magazine) to Jeff Steinberg(Sojourn to the Past), Tony Hillery (Harlem Grown), Steve Brown (Greystone), Dave Dennis (CORE), Myrlie Evers (NAACP), and Bob Moses (SNCC) and Andrew Young (SCLC).


Present for the intergenerational panel discussion were Youth Activists including AGF Social Change Fellow Suprita Datta, AGF Vote Everywhere Ambassador Jonian Raffti, AGF Millennial Advisory Committee member Nadia Osuwu and the Executive Director of Million Hoodies, Dante Barry who spoke about the death of Michael Brown and civil rights in Ferguson, MO.
