Thank You President Barack Obama for re-affirming the importance of Civil Rights in America and Freedom Summer with the Congressional Medal of Honor for Chaney, Goodman and Schwerner. The medal will be awarded on Nov. 24 to the families of James Chaney, Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner, who were killed on June 21, 1964, near Philadelphia, Miss. during Freedom Summer.
The Andrew Goodman Foundation Hidden Heroes Awards on November 17th and marks the 50th Anniversary Freedom Summer and of the KKK murders of Chaney, Goodman and Schwerner who had gone to Mississippi to register voters with Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) and SNCC.
Harry Belafonte raised 70,000 dollars in support of the Freedom Summer Workers. He and Sidney Poitier risked their lives and delivered the cash to James Forman and the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) Workers.
